breeder near me is looking for broodmares, has the usual criteria list of pedigree, colour, age etc but also wants "soggy" mares. What does that mean?

A big, soggy mare is a big boned, stout, heavy muscled beast of a mare. One that does not have any problems carrying, delivering and nursing a foal.

I've never heard that term either and I must say it's a little gross lol.
Based on that definition makes sense, esp if you're looking for a QH.

Are these surrogate mares for a breeding operation that they are looking for?

We use the term "soggy" quite a bit around here.
Like dreamcatcher said, big boned, big, stout, thick horses.
