Is there a way i can get my OTTB's papers?

My horse Bella came from the kill pen, but i identified her by her tattoo and know her registered name is Alyrunj, is there a way that i can get her papers? I don't really need them at right now, although I'd like to have them. If i ever show her will i need to have her papers?

Since you have your horse's tattoo number you can contact the Jockey Club which is the registery for Thoroughbreds can find out what you need to do to get your horse's papers.

Certificates of Registration with a breed organization are not normally required for Open Jumping Competition or 3-Day Eventing. I have been told that some of the horses entered in the annual Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event held at the Kentucky Horse Park outside of Lexington do not have Certificates of Registration, but are definitely Thoroughbreds.

Enjoy your new horse and wishing you many happy days ahead with her.
