    Thoughts on this Arabian....

Need some insight on this guy's pedigree and conformation. He is 3 hours away so these are the pics I have to work with right now. Chance is currently a stud but we would most likely be gelding him in spring. The world doesn't really need another stud and we really don't need one

Good looking gelding. By Ibn Never Heard of Him out of Bint Backyard. He has good lines farther back but ....... not what I'd have done if I were looking for a stud prospect. He looks good for Western Pleasure according to his sire lines.

I would look hard at the front legs. In the first picture the right front looks wonky from the knee down. Could be the picture, but it couldn't hurt to ask for better pictures of his legs from the sellers. Actually the left front looks different too.

He looks nice. Beware of that short back. Fitting Western saddles and pads will be...interesting...Also, ask for more pictures with better shots of his legs. They look off and I hope it's just because they were teasing him. If it isn't and they look the same in all the "normal" pictures, I would stress that to the vet for the PPE if you really want him, or just pass on him altogether.

That short back is the best thing about him. They make Arab length Western Saddles and Blankets, that don't rub and irritate the hips. He looks to have plenty of suspension and he should have a nice smooth wester jog, just going by his bloodlines, Khemo & Desperado V. I can't see enough of his legs to really say anything, so look hard at them. His neck is shapely but looks thick in the throatlatch, and if you were going to show him he'd need sweating. Head looks typey but not extreme.

I will warn you a bit on temper. I had a stallion by Sundance Kid V (a Desperado V son) who was well known to be an absolute PIG of a stallion. He was difficult to get along with and had a long list of dirty tricks in the ring that frequently got him out of work until he came to me. He turned his butt to me in the stall and gave me the nastiest look I've ever seen on a horse. I walked out and said, "Geld him." and walked away. We did (he was 11) and he turned into the sweetest horse alive. He still had all his dirty tricks to work through but as a gelding, we did and he got over himself pretty quickly.

You don't say how tall he is, but my Moonie was around 15.3 and regular western saddles fit him fine.

    Green Broke
The 14.2 hh Arab gelding I used to run was short backed and I used a regular barrel saddle and pad with no problems. He is a cute gelding haha

I'm dealing with a super short back and I've been around Arabians almost all my life. Never had one this short. Even the Arabian Western saddles are cutting it very close. Pads are even worse. I can't use regular barrel pads and have to double check the length on anything I might buy. *rolls eyes* The short back is great conformationally speaking, but something to pay attention to for tack and costs.

Thanks everyone! They are horrible pics but the best I had to work with.

I have actually already met and seen him in person. Bought the filly I used to have from them. This guy is actually one of the sweetest and calmest studs I have ever been around. A complete gentleman! Is penned next to 2 other young studs and usually has a horse in with him for company.

I do need to look at his legs better. He's only green broke currently. I can't imagine WHY we would leave him a stud. The ultimate decision is mom's, she's actually the one looking at him. :)

I think his pasterns are really steep and it looks like he is over at the knee, maybe also a tad uphill? I love him though, he's really cute looking- the short back suits him well because his neck balances it out (:

I would defiantly suggest gelding him, not because I think stallions are bad, but we defiantly don't want any accidental breeding as his conformation isn't the greatest.

Good luck with him if you decide to get him! He is beautiful (:
