Tracing a TB's tattoo - Anyone had any luck?

Has anyone else had any sucess in tracking down their horses tattoo?

I just submitted the require pictures and the application to the TB Protective Racing Foundation so hopefully in about 3-4 weeks I should have back information.

I am really excited to learn a little bit more about my boy. All I know is that he was off the track and was in training at some point. He is FAST.

I have been really confused about his tattoo because it is supposed to be 1 letter, to tell the age and 5 numbers. He has 1 letter and 4 numbers. It doesn't even look like there was a 5th number and it faded away or something.

If I was rich I would do a search through the Jockey Club but I can't afford it lol. Well see what turns up!

Tattoo look-up is free you know... Plus now they have it where you can put in part of their tattoo number and go by color and markings too. It made it really easy to track down who Rocket is and what he did on the race track.

Ditto on the free lookup--
Also regarding the confusion on number of digits-- are you sure he is a Thoroughbred? Because other breeds that race (Quarter Horse, Appaloosa and Paint-- including solids from both of those breeds) will also have a lip tattoo. If you can't get anywhere with his tattoo matching up for a JC registered horse, you could try one of the other registries-- I don't think they have any online service for tattoo matching (nowhere near the number of horses racing from those breeds to warrant it compared to TBs), but they have customer service that you could call.
