And they weren't lying. Art Deco, her grandsire, is registered Oldenburg, she does have Oldenburg blood, and her size and build looks like an Oldenburg so that's what they went with.
It's a sensitive issue. It's really not much different from someone saying they have a TB when they really have an appendix qh. Since QH are not allowed in the TB registry that would technically be a lie even though they do have TB blood. Since your mare has paint and QH breeding she would never be accepted into the oldenburg registry so no, I don't think you should call her an oldenburg. And yes, the previous owners did lie about her breed. She is a well bred mare, but dispute who her grandsire she does not meet the requirements for registration, had you wanted to register her.
If people ask, call her a warmblood, because that's what she is. If you want her to have an actual breed then you should consider getting her registered with the AWS, as many warmblood people will get very touchy about mislabeling.
