Question What breed do you think Kody is?

This is Kody, my sweet little mutt. I got him about 2 years ago for my mom, because she has a bad back and he is safe and gentle enough for her to handle and ride. We bought him knowing little to nothing about him. We know that he is older, most likely in his 20's. Thats about it.
He has saddle sores and he follows close behind my mare when we are on trails, so I assume he was used for trail guides in his past.

He is about 14.2hh, has a rounded nose/face. He stands almost saddlebred-like with his legs far apart, and he even has somewhat of an odd gate and he picks his feet up high. However, he resembles little to nothing of any gaited breed I've ever seen.
His conformation is good enough, but pretty shabby. His butt is small and hes got dips and curves in odd places. No doubt he is cute, but definitely not a "pretty" horse lol.

So what are your thoughts?

Looks like a Quarter Horse or possibly a cross

He looks like an ouchy Quarter Pony of some kind. Has he been seen by the vet? He looks like he has some puffiness in his joints, and standing parked out like that is not a natural tendency, even for gaited horses. He's cute - I hope he's healthy!

Yeah, hes been checked pretty recently. When I first saw him do it thats what I thought, so I took him in. But he checked out as a healthy old man. He is pretty much a companion buddy for my mare so at least he isnt ever worked too hard if he were to be hurting.
But yeah, quarter pony is prob the best bet. Especially keeping in mind that I live in southern Az, there isnt really anything too exotic down here. Mostly qh, paints, and BLM mustangs
