What breed is Nelson?

If you've been following, you'll know I just purchased Nelson. I was told that he was QH. I am wondering if he is a QH, or is he another breed. His facial features just don't look like other QHs Ive seen. His head is alot shorter, his eyes are more square, among other things. Any thoughts?

The only paperwork I got with him was his coggins.

I can see what you mean about his face. To me, it looks more like a pony face, especially in the second image and the second last one. There's just something distinctively pony about his face to me. Maybe he's only half QH and half pony of some sort? Perhaps try asking the owners if there's any other breed in him.
He's a very beautiful boy though!!

Don't be fooled by the more refined head. The one gelding I had I raised as a foal all the way until he was broke to ride under saddle. He was a fully papered Foundation QH and he has the head of an arab.
The body of your guy looks more refined than some QHs but his body scream QH to me. He has very fine facial features. A very friendly looking guy.

Quarter Horse. He is the spitting image of a horse I had 20 years ago. I had to find an old picture of him to be sure.

Cat Nap Que was his registered name and he was double registered with AQHA and PHBA. If he is like "Jack", he will shed out in the summer to be a surprisingly beautiful horse.

Yep, I still think he is a QH. Maybe he is just bred a little differently. Plus, all the fluffy winter hair is not very good for seeing details. My QH Flash has that same face kinda. I wish I had a better pic. Yours is a real cutie though. I can't wait to see in the summer when he is slicked off.

If you don't have a tape that does the conversion, then use a regular tape measure and go from the ground to the top of his withers. Take the reading and divide by 4 (there are 4" to a hand).

Truthfully he doesn't look that tall, pictures can be deceiving but he looks like he is about 14.2~14.3h.

maybe you are just a big guy LOL. I thought same thing he looks about 14.2 or 14.3 on the border between pony and horse. there are horses that seem more pony like but are just horses by the virtue of their height and vice versa, its not big deal. he could easily be all QH but just on border of "horse" my sister had a quarter pony growing up. He was about 14.1. great pony!
