What breed(s) Is he?

I can't really tell what breed exactly he is but hopefully you guys can help me out its really bothering me. Anyway here's a bit about him.
He's 8 years old
A real sweet heart and very mellow but he spooks easy
He's a brown and white paint gelding about maybe 15.2 hh (+/-)
His name is Spot, because on his flank he has a random black spot. But my favorite marking of his is under his chin/jaw he has a phoenix/bird shaped mark.
Here are a few pics of him (most are head shots though):

Also, if anyone has any idea of another name I can call him that would be great, I really don't like the name Spot, To me it doesn't suit him.

He just looks like a paint to me. With him being as big as he is, there may be some draft back in his lines somewhere but there really is no way to tell. He is a good looking boy.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Well, he is a Paint, is he gaited? Could be a MFT

I'm not sure if he's gaited. As far as I know, we weren't told much about him when we got him a few months ago and nobody could remember the breed when I asked. I haven't seen him move all that much over a walk except for when he spooked (haven't been allowed to ride him). But I can see where you would get the MFT from.

Paint is a registry and since the owner is asking I don't think he is registered. That makes him a pinto.

I agree he does not really look like he is crossed with anything and may have not been registered because he wasn't stallion quailty. Not that he isn't nice. I love spots, but agree the name doesn't suit him.

I think he looks like a typical Paint horse in build...due to not being registered, he could be registered with the Pinto horse association, unless his actual registration papers are hangin' around somewhere.

Without papers, he's 'grade' regardless of whether he's a Paint, or other breed status.

He is not registered, that much I do know, his previous owners never registered him. But I was told on the first day I met him was that he is a Paint, but I wasn’t told by the actual previous owners, which led me to wondering what exactly he is, plus I’ve seen numerous different breeds that have paint/pinto markings, like a few arabs. So if one of his parents was registered he could be a paint so by technicality he is a pinto that could be a paint. Does it really matter if he’s registered or not? Especially if Paints are supposed to be a “breed” anyway? Just wondering, it’s confusing. What would his pattern be called?

He is a tobiano paint.

Spent a whole hour today laying in a pasture, waiting for a sparkling vampire to show up. Alas, I woke up and looked over, only to find a mound of horse crap. Sigh.
