We just rescued a 4 year old palomino mare and can't figure out what breed she is... Does anybody have any guesses?

That's what I thought she looked like was a Tennessee walker. She moves like one to, and defiantly is gaited! Does she look pure TWH or a cross?

I always thought Palomino was a color not a breed, but I knew there was a registry for the coloring... Is it in fact a breed or just color of a horse?

Well I personally think it is a colour... I know in the US there are a few 'Palomino' registries and the UK has one now. To register your palomino with them they have to be a DNA tested palomino and be between a certain shade of palomino (so no Isabella or chocolate palominos). The horse can be any breed though. I think they are aiming to establish a 'Palomino' breed by selective breeding, after all that is how all breeds started out. Personally im not for breeding for colour.

As for your mare, she does look like a pure mare but without papers you can never be sure. I assume there was no information with her, if she was rescued?

Well, if she's gaited there are several gaited breeds. She may be purebred TWH, but is most likely a cross & the most common cross with any breed around here is QH. She could even have FoxTrotter in her (just by the looks of her head).

She was rescued out of the kill pen for slaughter in Port Huron, Michigan.. :( The lady who we got her from said she looked Arabian/Quarter Horse but I beg to differ. She has no papers or anything on her, but from research and searching around I see alot of TWH in her. Although we have a Quarter horse mare that she look similar to.

I'm not familiar with fox trotters but she is gaited. I will post a video of her running, maybe you all could help me even more seeing her gaits! :)

Thanks!
