Ok so i bought my horse at the auction and he is perfect i could not ask for a better boy. He is 15.2 and he is built very wide and strong. I was told when i bought him he was a reg qh. Well when i got the papers it was all messed up and they were not his papers. O well would not trade him for the world. But anyways i have had lots of ppl tell me he looks like a morgan and some a foundation qh..So i guess i am asking what you guys think. And what color would you call him. Here as some pictures the day i got him. I will post some new ones later. Thanks

he kind of looks like a fading black. since his head is all white but i'm not very good with colors. this is how one of the horses we have looks like in the summer. and in the winter you would SWEAR he is black. and he seems to be retaining a mostly black head like your boy. so thats my guess

can you explain to me why you are saying faded black? I do not know colors but the basic ones. I know i sound silly but trying to learn here.

That horse is a dark chestnut. There is no black in him. His legs would be black if he was a faded black.

not sure. but I was saying fading black because his head looks back. (hard to tell by the photos and i am no expert!) but fading black is a color that appears to be black but during the warm months they turn a brown color. where as a TRUE non fading black stays black for the most part besides maybe a little bleaching from the sun but for that i'm not even sure.

What people call faded black is probably most of the time brown. At?? for the agouti. Puts more black pigment over the entire body then just the points. Also they can be black with the cream gene (Smokie black) which makes them look like they are fading.

I have to agree with nrhareiner, he is a liver/dark chestnut. The main thing that gives it away is the fact that the farther you go down his legs, the lighter/more reddish they get. I would say all QH though sometimes it is hard to tell. He is a cute boy and looks like a really nice horse.

I totally agree on the papers part. He is a honest horse and gives a honest days work and means the world to me. I trust him with all i have and it is very deserved. But ppl always ask what color he is and i always say dark brown lol and sometimes i feel silly cuz ppl will see him and question on why i say he that color. I know how to ride and take care of all my horses medical needs and basic care. But when in comes to colors and breeds i admit i am lost:oops:
