    I just might be changing my thinking a bit here. He could be a spotted Saddlebred x QH. In such a breeding, I think it would possibly turn out like this fellow.

    He doesn't have to be registered to be a paint.

    Well, since she doesn't know his background and he obviously is not registered, he is not a Paint. 'Paint' is a breed of horse, which has its own registry. What he is, is a pinto. 'Pinto' is a common term for a horse of his colour. He's actually a Tobiano, plus probably, a few other genetic colours.

    I think you misunderstood what I said. Just because he's not registered does not necessarily mean that he isn't a paint. Not all paints are registered.
    That's like saying my quarter horse isn't a quarter horse because he isn't registered in the AQHA.
