I came across this really nice looking sorrel gelding and wanted to ask you guys what you think his breed might be.

if anything he looks like one of the warm springs correctional facility blm project horses. i'd say i think that even more based on the riders clothing (prison issued) and the background. plus the horse looks like SOOOOO many of the mustangs we have here. ;)

when do we get to find out what he is?? :D

Well, I was hoping for fewer people to recognize him for what he is. Shame on me for posting this, knowing how many knowledgeable folks we have here LOL.

Yep, mustang, I can't remember where from but I thought he was stunning, especially for a mustang.

I was going to ask how many hands he is to give me a better idea. I agree with the cross though. (Joints/Head). Any idea what he weighs?

no worries - i know most people haven't had the pleasure of dealing with the BLM mustangs. ;)

and i'd guess that some herds (horse size - not actual herd #s) are smaller because they survive longer/better with a smaller build to sustain when they don't have as much forage to live off of. (if that made sense haha)

The original Spanish horses were small never above 15H, but the BLM horses are not usually small some reach up to 16H they cab usually grow taller in captivity with proper nutrition

the mare that's in the pen next to the two mustangs down at the BLM for training is HUGE. like - 16.3 and built like a tank. it amazes me every time i see her that she's that big and came off the range. smart smart girl to boot.

the flip side are the more petite 14hh horses that have obvious spanish blood in them. the nice part about the BLM office is that they can look up the horse's tag # and tell you what herd it came from and give you some idea of what the horses in that herd tend to mature into. always fun!
