Question Appaloosa people... Help!

My boyfriend just recently bought me a 2 year old Appaloosa gelding for Christmas. I have one picture from the previous owner of him during the Summer, then I have a few of him from 12/8. Sorry he's wet, it's been raining for 4 days. :/ Can you guys help with his color? When I got him he was very dirty and seemed like a roan color, but now he looks like a palomino maybe? I'm lost with Appaloosa's, I've never had one up until now- all I know are the coat patterns.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky, & live like you aint afraid to die, & don't be scared, just enjoy your ride.

Varnish blanket appy. I'd venture a guess at palomino but I'm not sure because appy genes can bronze the base color.

thank you so much! I looked up the coloring and everything last night and found some stuff on the varnish blankets, and I thought he could be that, but I wasnt for sure. Thank you :)

Wow, sure is beautiful with the extra weight and muscle in the before picture. Can't wait to see after pictures. He looks like a red varnish roan before. My mare looks allot like the before picture. Don't know what to call the colour right now.
