Black or Brown?

I just posted these pictures on the Black Horse thread but after looking around here some I don't know if my mare is black or not. She was black this spring and she faded out some this summer but she has the light flanks but does NOT have a light muzzle.

Here's what I know about her - her sire is chestnut but I don't know what mom is. I can't find any pics of her on the internet but I've found pics of her parents. Mom's dad is palomino and mom's mom is gray. I know gray horses are really a color underneath so I did some more digging and found 4 foals out of her (none of course being my mare's mom). All four foals were sired by a palomino stud. There were two palomino foals, one bay sabino foal, and one black sabino foal. So I'm guessing granny is either a black or bay sabino under the gray.

Without further ado, here is Elivra:

The 2nd photo looks a lot like a bay...quite similar to my Morgan - dappled to boot! :)

She is black the fading is from sweat. My friends black Percheon cross fades very similarly.

She looks black from those, but a winter coat picture would confirm.

Sorry I don't have a winter coat picture. I just got her in May. What would I look for in the winter coat?

They jus wan to check if she gets cinnamon coloring around her soft parts like a brown based horse. But I really think she is jus a black horse who sun fades. But in the winter you can look for this coloring like on this horse.
