Dark bay, bay-brown, brown or black?? Help!

My standardbred gelding (and a lot of other standies on the farm) change colour according to seasons; some more than others. Choco in particular appears a light, faded bay one part of the year; then will change to a darker brown and at other times will appear pitch-black. His mane and tail always stay black, as do his legs. His muzzle will lighten to a 'tan' colour and darken again throughout his colour change as well. I have always thought of him as a dark bay, although I have heard recently that he may be brown. What is he really?

I'm going to put my money on brown, but pictures would help. My standardbred changes colors throughout the seasons and she's brown.

Thank you for feeding us years of lies. Thank you for the wars you left us to fight. Thank you for the world you ruined overnight. But we'll be fine, yeah we'll be fine.
