    Guesses on this mare's breed/color?

This is my husband's mare, we bought her last Christmas from a gentleman who assured us she was a registered QH, but that he never got her papers (didn't concern us, as we won't be breeding her.) I'm no color expert, but I'm thinking she might have some paint in her. Just wondering what you guys think based on her pattern. She is a bit darker in the winter, but she sheds out to a pretty light silvery roan in the summer, and has no white markings other than legs and face. She also has a very light flaxen mane and tail. Thanks in advance!

Chestnut Sabino. As far as her breed...unfortunately you'll never know for sure. I'd say she's stock breed. Paint, could be quarter horse, mix between the two...A dash of something else in there?

    She's pretty.

Thank you! That confirms some of my suspicions--Everything around here that isn't registered basically gets lumped into the quarter horse category, but I didn't think a full quarter horse would pattern like this.

Pretty much agree. Chestnut with sabino and possibly a Quarter Horse mixture for breed. Very cute little face on her And Sabino is not necessarily a Paint trait. It crops up in many breeds including QH, Arabs, ponies and drafts

Not sure why she couldn't be pure QH I agree the color doesn't look it but it doesn't mean anything, QH have sabino and she is just more expressed than usual. I think the roaning is likely from sabino but am wondering if she may have regular roan too.

Thanks lilruffian! Now that you mentioned it, I have noticed some ponies, draft breeds and (I think) some Tennessee Walkers with the Sabino pattern. I've definitely got some studying to do on the color "spectrum." =)

She isn't showing regular roaning signs. Her face is a good indicator. I'd say she's just sabino.

I think so too, but was jw.

She definitely has sabino either way.

She chestnut sabino and I'm thinking frame with that wide top heavy blaze that spreads across the forehead above the eyes and the solid front legs. Both patterns are in QH's or she could be a paint/QH cross that's fairly common.

Thanks for the input all, I've learned quite a bit and the husband was pleased to hear that a few other people think she's cute, too. =) It's hard to tell in these pictures but she has a few conformational features that made me think she might be a cross--but she could very well just be an oddly-put-together quarter horse in need of some conditioning.
