Medicine Hats

I always thought that paints that were considered Medicine Hats had a colored shield-like patch on their chest and a colored patch over their poll and ears. But recently I heard someone refer to their paint as a Medicine Hat even though it had no chest shield. If the horse doesn't have the shield, can it still be classified as a Medicine Hat?

Here you go. A description of what the medicine hat is supposed to be. "The important distinguishing characteristic of a Medicine Hat is the head. The rest of the body can be of any other pattern. But in order to get a white head and colored ears and cap, most Medicine Hats or War Bonnets are mostly white in color with very few other colored patches." The horse can be a medicine hat with or without the shield, as the term refers solely to the color on the polls and ears regardless of the rest of the body.
