Mini mare color pattern

Okay so I recently bought a mini filly(Vegas). She's 3 years old, and I'm having her tested but would like to narrow down what I'm testing for. Her dam(Sahara) is homozygous for tobiano, and negative for frame. However, she has a snip and blue in both her eyes. I'm thinking splash? She has very minimal color on her, she's almost all white. She's registered as a grey pinto(I think) but there's no way she's a grey. I personally think silver black, her colored areas are a chocolatey color, and her forelock is a cream-ish white. She also has white eyelashes. Her sire is a black leopard appaloosa, not sure if he's tested or not.

Vegas is a reddish roan color, with mottling on her muzzle, lips, eyes and vulva along with the extra sclera. I would assume she's carrying LP. She carries tobiano, of course, but what else do you see? Also please note, both mares came from a bad situation and are still gaining weight. Vegas has a belly, but has been transabdominally ultrasounded with no baby. She has also been wormed.

Sahara(sorry, don't have many good photos of her):

Vegas:

White eyelashes:

So my general consensus is that Sahara is a silver black tobiano with splash, and Vegas is a silver black tobiano with splash and LP

Do you know the color of Vegas sire? To me she does appear to possibly be going grey, however if it is LP it could just be varnishing. However I agree that the dam is not Grey :) Could be Silver, but neither screams silver to me.

The dam is the same color as our other silver mini, which is what makes me think silver. Sire is black leopard. Also forgot to mention Vegas is the same color now as she is in her foal pics, maybe even a tad darker.

Difficult to tell about silver, since if LP is present, it can change the appearance of colour considerably.

Please tell me you are not breeding either of these mares. Both have roached backs (which can be one sign of certain kinds of dwarfism) and are not breeding quality.

Well considering that Sahara has an extensive show record as does Vegas' sire(hall of fame roadster, also several all stars) and the stallion we have(who is also the only Appaloosa son of Wittmaacks Mickey Mouse, as far as I know) also has an extensive driving record, I may breed her in the future, depending on how she shows. Also don't forget that these mares are still severely underweight. Both mares are taller, Sahara is around 36" and Vegas about 35". Then again, if she does continue to show the roach back(which in Saharas photos before being starved she doesn't have one), I may not.

Also, Vegas has not come into heat in the two month I've had her. My vet will not do a rectal ultrasound, and the transabdominal will only show a late term pregnancy. She may already be bred.

Also, this is a thread about color, not breeding. I know what goes into it, I know what can come out of it. If I do end up breeding her, which I may or may not, she will be tested for all genetic disorders first. She will also be taught to drive, and hopefully have a record before I make my decision. I most likely won't, but it isn't out of the question as of yet. She's only 3, she's still a baby herself.

Yes, I remember a couple of months ago, when you said here you were thinking of getting into Minis, I sent you off to the Mini forum, so you could ask about Luv'em Minis Apache Ruler. You did ask there but never came back after some gave you a whole run-down on his background and winnings in the show ring. He was sired by Dieles Mini Ruler, who is a Wittmaaks Mickey Mouse son. Apache Ruler, was mostly known mostly, as a driving horse.

I don't know anything about your Sahara's extensive show record. Only that she is in (sadly) terrible shape in the pictures. I hope you are able to get both mare and filly, in good condition again and show them.

I'm not positive about Greyfeather, but I do know he also has a hall of fame(can't remember if its roadster or CDE) and is only a few points from getting a second.

Sahara has already gained somewhere between 100-125 lbs, if not more. She looks GOOD compared to when she first came home. I'm completely smitten with these minis, they're so awesome. Greyfeather is such a gentleman, more concerned about food than where the ladies are. And again, I plan to show Vegas before I make any decisions.

That was what was printed out for you on the Mini forum, but you did not come back and answer the posts.

I hope you do join all the hundreds of Mini breeders and enthusiasts there again. There is an enormous wealth of knowledge there.

I frequently read, I just don't post often. Before that info was put on the mini forum I'd found it on google. I'd buy Apache too, if I could. They are all at the same breeder. Evidently Apache and Greyfeather got out(Greyfeather apparently knows how to undo latches) and got into a very bad fight, they have a hatred for each other. Grey is great with our geldings, so I'm not sure what exactly happened or why they hate each other. But Greyfeather had an injury, she claims it's a minor bone chip in his right front coronet band. He's sound, but has a gimp on occasion. He's going to be my grandmother's first driving mini, and her little buddy. He's such a sweetheart.
