pedigree and color

Being very interested in the color genetics I would love if pedigree would add the base color to their grey horses. Something like Color: Grey (ch) meaning a chestnut turned grey. Especially in the AHR which has a lot of greys. I know testing is the best method but you can still get an idea from a pedigree.

Having something like that would be of GREAT benefit all over - to researchers, to registrars, to breeders. But in addition, having the correct color listed would be a huge help. Since some registries do not accept all color designations, there are thousands of horses that don't have the correct color anywhere on their papers!

Registries are also considerably behind on color genetics, as are most of the average horse owning community, so many horses are registered as the wrong color. For example, Abby has three horses in her pedigree that are registered as Black. In reality, they are all three smoky black because clearly you cannot get a buckskin from a black and a sorrel. However, cream hides on black and there is no visible difference between black and smoky black.
