Buck is a mustang off the Pryor herd. In summer, he is nearly white. In the winter, he turns sorrel. Every other roan I've had was the opposite- dark in summer, light in winter. What gives?
Looks like a Varnish gene acting on Paint. Yes, mustangs do have Paintaloosas! A photographer has been posting a story about a devilish little Paintaloosa stud trying to make off with a lame (but much older) studs little band of two.
Loki's the same, in the winter he's sorrel and in the summer he is PALE!
In the winter picture, the horse in question is behind the pinto correct?
I would just say varnish roan. Pretty normal. For a long time Phoenix got really dark in the winter, but she has progressed so much with her varnish that she one gets darker in certain areas.
Yes, Buck is behind Cheyenne the APHA mare in the winter picture.
