We just purchased an AQHA broodmare and would love some help on determining what colour she is. We will be having her colour tested but it would also be nice to know what we should test for.
She's registered as a brown but I know that she was registered incorrectly as she is a single dilute (also carries the red gene). She has thrown two buckskins off a chestnut and a bay, one "brown" off a bay and one chestnut off a bay.
I have tried to do some simple research by looking into her bloodlines but because she is so old/foundation bred, it's hard to tell what colours she carries in her bloodlines since the genetic tests we have now, were not available then and a lot of horses were registered incorrectly. Her registered name is Goetzs Lina Bikini, if you want to look her up on All Breed Pedigree.
I'm trying to determine if she is a smoky black or a sooty buckskin. The other colour gene I am trying to determine if she has is the silver gene. Her previous owner thought she was a grullo but she does not have a dominant dorsal stripe (only countershading), leg barring or a mask to make her one.
I don't have the greatest pictures to post but they're all I have right now on my computer. I only have the pictures available that her previous owner sent me but they will give you a good idea.
She also has dapples throughout her coat that you can see best in the summer and fall pictures. I am including some spring/summer and fall pictures. She looks the same now as she did in the fall, only with a winter coat.
Any help would be great!!
