What color?

Ok, so I'm not sure what to call my 4 yr old mare. Her dam is Arab X Paint, and her sire is Andalusian X QH. Her dam is dark bay with a few very small white patches, and a white streak in her mane. Her sire is flea bitten. My mare is light gray with dark gray dapples, but on of her ears and a few other places on her body have the flea bitten pattern like her sire. Her mane is black but fades to a dark red-brown at the ends. Her tail is very dark gray- almost black but fades to flaxen on the ends. But, if you take it and split it down the middle, there is a silver streak that runs all the way down. What color is she? I have been calling her gray dapple, but I'm just not sure anymore.

The last one of her eye is so you can see the red brown in her mane.

Just gray. There are a thousand different descriptors to describe what kind of gray (dappled, fleabitten, steel, etc) but a gray is still just a gray.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Totally agree with above post. All colors dapple during different seasons or even different nutrition. I have a bay with beautiful dapples in the spring and fall. The color on her mane is probably sun bleaching. Eventually her mane and tail will turn white too (unless you dye them)

Just a gray though you can call her a dapple as well. In a few years she will most likely be completely or nearly white, maybe even fleebitten like the sire.
