What color is he?

I just can't figure out what color my little boy is. I'm not all in on the color thing. He is a pure breed Appaloosa

Mother is double white and father is Red Roan I believe.

Cloud, 5 weeks old

1 year, not pretty, but white with a few small spots, and mottled skin

Mother, Tify Cloud

Father, Such-A-Way

Looks to me like a snowcap that varnished very quickly or greyed out. Leaning more towards varnish though.

Grey for sure. Varnish doesn't progress on the face like that.

The sire appears to be snowcap chestnut, but not red roan. I think that it appears your guy was chestnut (or possibly bay) snowcap that went gray.

Yep, gray. One of the reasons why gray is sort of frowned on in Appy breeding circles. You lose sight of all those gorgeous markings.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Absolutely correct. As grey as grey can be. Too bad - looks like he is a snowcap...
