Frame is a white pattern gene that in it's homozygous form (two copies) causes a foal to die of horrible pain within 72 hours (if not humanely euthanized) of birth due to an incomplete digestive track. There is no cure. Breeding frame to frame results in a 25% change of producing a lethal foal. Frame is adept at hiding behind other patterns and solid colored horses can carry it. Any horses in any breed that is known to have frame should be tested before breeding in order to not take the chance of breeding frame to frame.
