What color IS she?

So, I know Babe is an appaloosa, but I'm not sure what this color type is or what to call her. What do you say she is?

My guess would be red roan, though I'm not sure I've seen a roan quite that "splotchy" before. She's very pretty! I'm sure some other members on here have more experienced/informative answers. :)

She is roaned because of the appaloosa colouring. She is what is called a varnish roan, on a chestnut base. So I would call her a chestnut varnish roan. As she gets older, the roan will progress and she will gradually colour out, until colour is only really left on her bony points such as hips and face and legs.

My best guess is either chestnut varnish roan or red roan. Whatever color she sure is pretty!! Also welcome to the forum!

Definitely varnish roan. Like Chiilaa said, her color will continue to change. I enjoy watching varnishes change more than grays because grays always have the same endpoint. Varnish changes at whatever rate it wants and never really finish.

She's in her 20s already, so not a young girl. ;) I really love her color, so I'm glad I know what it is now! I have a friend who's sending me a blue halter for her. I can't wait to use it. What she has right now is pink and it clashes with her coat.
