    What is the name for this marking ?????

    Can any please tell us the name of this mark on our Buckskin Mare. I was wondering if it is a somatic mutation..
    I think it is getting bigger.

    Not too well versed in this, but it looks like it may be a concentration of sooty on her flank area.

    A chestnut that I've been working with at my barn has a couple of similar spots. They're not quite as large though, and one's on the crest of his neck with the other being on his flank. I don't know anything about them, but I'd be curious to see what folks have to say!

    It does look like a somatic mutation to me. It doesn't look like it is getting bigger though.
