This is Emi, and her AQHA papers are pending. She has quite a bit of racing breeding back a few generations. Her sire and dam are good trail horses. I would like for her to be a trail horse, mountain horse, maybe work a few cows an go over the odd jump for fun. I know everyone cringes when you post a horse for critique that's so young, but I just wanted to know if anyone sees any glaring faults? I think she looks pretty good for her age. She has grown close to two hh this winter, and string tests 16hh. Excuse the icky footing, the warm weather we've had lately has made everything a mess.
I see one thing that worries me.. the size and shape of her fetlock joints. She looks like Epiphysitis.. those joints seem over large like she is being fed too hot and growing too fast. She certainly is not thin.
you can easily feel her ribs through all that fuzz. All she gets is grass hay, with a handful of whole oats and flax for a treat a few times a week. Same diet as all the babies on the farm have gotten for the last 11 years with no problems. Maybe this batch of hay is too rich? I'll double check.
Love her color and I bet it will be even more gorgeous once she sheds out. The joints and very upright front pasterns caught my eye too. Not sure what one does about it, but might be worth researching.
If you only want her for an all-around fun horse with no serious ambitions to be a grand national champion whatever, I think she'd do just fine.
As for her pasterns, my friend (who knows WAY more about conformation than I do) told me once that basically all having straight pasterns means is that the horse'll have a bouncier trot than what's desirable. Not sure if that's true or if she was just dumbing it down for me lol.
