Another rescue. Supposed to be pregnant. Quite thin but very well behaved and has beautiful movement. Stands a little taller then the other mare and has been named Jara. She traveled by boat for 4 days to get to Lombok and was immediately put to work there pulling a cart. Traveled by boat again to get here. Not as pleased with her structure as the other mare but it is hard to tell with her being so thin.
Thoughts?
Again, not a great angle. What I see though is she's butt-high and has a very squared hip (I think that'll be fixed with weight though). Her neck is a little thin, but again, a weight issue, and I think it ties in pretty well.
Others can probably tell you more, but it may be difficult to tell a whole lot until she's in good condition.
Until she gains weight and condition it's really hard to critique her. Right now she needs groceries which will make a huge difference in her conformation and appearance.
She has one on her left rear fetlock also. Plus the red halter thing on her is hand braided and has bells on it. All are handcrafted local "decorations" that they put on horses. I suspect her original owner on the island of Sumbawa put them on her before she came to Lombok (where she was pulling the cart pregnant and not fed well) and now to Gili Trawangan. She was only in Lombok a few weeks before coming here. I am guessing that as well behaved and compliant she is that she was originally well cared for and trained and after being shipped and sold maybe the neglect started. She is super friendly like a big golden retriever which is relatively unusual for horses around here. Most of these horses and ponies are simply working animals so they do not get "love" or petting. So they tend to be fairly obedient but not seeking human attention nor expecting it. For one to act like her is different. She follows you around the yard, noses you and begs for treats.
Beautiful little girl though, and at least both of them are okay. Once momma gets good groceries and maybe a little help feeding baby it'll all be good. What are you naming her?
Well we certainly thought we had another few weeks!
We had a group from India here (I run a dive resort) and apparently they prayed she would have the baby before they left (they left at 12 today the baby was born at 6!). So we are considering a Hindi name. We have several choices but leaned towards Varsha which means rain in Hindi as there was also a torrential rainstorm immediacy after her birth!
Photos showing her gradual weight gain. Overall she is looking better but her skin is a wreck with runs and small flakey spots all over and lots of hair loss
