Rueger is a 4.5 year old BLM Mustang. I adopted him 4 years ago as a yearling and he was extremely underdeveloped/malnourished/awkward and I think he's finally starting to grow into himself! He's being started undersaddle now. He's a smooth ride and has floaty movement.
The pictures are from after todays ride. I know he's definitely not perfect so point out any and all flaws! (And yes he does have that huge mustang head!) Also what do you think about his weight? We've been struggling with it since day 1.
Basic Info;
DOB (estimated by BLM); May 2012. He was aged by teeth (by our vet) and his age of 4.5 was confirmed.
Height; 14.1
Weight; 840lbs last time I checked (a while ago!)
Never been lame
He does have a "mustang head" for sure as well as a long neck.
I don't mind the angle of his shoulder but it is small
Short back
Appears a tad bumhigh
Small hindquarters with a steep angle to his croup
Definitely cowhocked in the back legs but I personally don't mind his pasterns and his feet are sure to be nice
I like the slope he has to his shoulder! His neck ties in fairly well, if a teeny bit on the low side. Front legs look good with a nice slope to his pasterns. His wither looks to be quite short, which I think is making his front legs appear more forward set then they are. His back is sort, but not overly so. His hindquarter appears small when compared to his front, but the angles aren't too bad. You'll probably find he'll bulk up a bit as he gets older. His hind legs look a little sickle hocked as well as cow hocked. His pasterns are also a little bit more upright then the front ones, but a lot of horses are. Overall he is downhill, but again I wouldn't be surprised if his front end came up a little more as he gets older. He looks like a lovely little horse though, and I quite like his 'mustang' head xD
I did want to mention that he looks a little asymmetrical muscle wise in the behind shot of his hindquarters. It could just be the photo or how he is standing, but it just seems to 'fall away' quicker on the right hand side and makes the point of his hips look uneven. I would probably say this is more just the photo, but I thought I'd mention it anyway )
Thank you for the critique! I like his "mustang" head too! He was standing on a bit of a downhill so that's why his hips look uneven, they are even in person!
I thought it must have been something like that He is very lovely!
