    I'm trying to learn confo....

This is our 15 yr old pinto mare Katy. I would like to know more about her conformation, I know she has flaws but would like to know as much as possible. We only pleasure ride so nothing specific being done with her. Based on your thoughts, what do you think she's built better for, if anything?

She looks butt high and a bit sway backed, to me. Could just be lack of muscling, as her neck is thin, too. She is VERY straight through the stifle. Her neck ties in very low.

She has a nice short back, good shoulder angle, her front legs are lovely, and I like the angle and length of her pasterns.

    Green Broke
I love her color. Her stance in the photo makes it hard to get a good look at her though. You might want to get some photos of her squared up without her leg cocked.

Her back is a little swayed or maybe she is built a little down-hill. It's hard to tell because of the leg being cocked. The only thing I would try to "fix" if possible is the angle of the front hoof that is towards the camera. It looks like it has a broken-back angle or the toe may be run-forward a little. But that can be fixed with trimming.

She reminds me a lot of a Paint I used to own. He passed away and boy do I miss him!

Thanks for the feedback! There are more photos of her in my albums but may not work for confo either. I will try to get one of her squared up.

The only thing I'm changing my mind on is the thickness of her neck. Without her mane covering it, it's actually quite thick. Still ties in low on her chest, though.

Going to add that she looks slightly sickle hocked, as well.

She looks like a sweetheart! Front legs are nice, back ones are kind of sickle hocked and posty. Back lacks muscling and is kind of swayed. She has a nice shoulder on her.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, her back definitely needs muscling and we've worked on that but not consistently. Found out she does NOT like calvetti!!
