possible purchase

i am looking to possibly purchase this yearling gelding. he was born in November of 2015. his mom is 15.2hh and dad is 16.1hh so he should be a decent size boy when he grows up. before you ask, yes, i have worked with and trained youngsters in the past so i know what im getting myself into from that aspect. i am really looking forward to starting with him from the ground up.

i am wanting to train him to ride in a couple years and use him for some trails and do some low level jumping (nothing over 3' and no showing. just popping over a few jumps here and there for fun). i might also do some pattern work with him (poles/barrels) but nothing competitive, just "fun day" type events.

these are not the best conformation shots but they are all i have for now. i am asking for some better pictures and will post them once i have them.

what are your thoughts on him? any issues that you can see?

Looks to have a short back & maybe too straight behind, but can't tell anything much from those pics. Need proper pics of him standing square, squarely from side on, front & hind, if you want a confo critique.

I agree with loosie

Don't judge someone's horse or skill because they don't compete or work with a trainer.

Sometimes they're the most in tune with each other.

Is he half Arab? Just curious, as he looks to have the taik carriage of one.

i had already asked for more pictures before i posted about him. she is supposed to get me some better pictures later today. i will post them as soon as i have them.
i have always liked a shorter back on a horse. i am hoping i can tell a bit more about his legs and build once i see better pics of him. hes on the other side of town from me a little over an hour drive away so i want to make sure there are no glaring faults before i drive out there to see him in person.

hes Paint x Quarter horse. he does almost look like he could have arab in him in a couple of the pictures but he was just really full of himself at the time.

I don't see glaring problems. I saw the hint of overstraight hocks. but, look into his sire/dam for that.

here are a couple more pictures of him that they just sent me. the pictures still arent great (hes standing under himself instead of square in one of them and the pics are a little blurry) but they are a lot better than what i had before.

He seems pretty post legged in the back. Short neck that ties in fairly high.

Nothing too horrible unless you are planning on showing at a breed level

Yep, posty hind end, but otherwise nice. He is standing a little camped under in front, in both above - maybe just how he's standing for the pics, but maybe it's a hoof/body issue.
