AJ is an Arabian standing at around
15 hands 3
Why is he the best horse? Hmmmm, let me see!
Whether I’m galloping across the fields, or jumping over rails
AJ is there to make sure I don’t fail!
Beautiful bay, a star between the eyes
AJ lends me wings, so I truly can fly.
He’s taught me most of what I know
On how to ride a horse
I can sit a buck or a rear, a cat leap or a failed jump!
Thanks to AJ and his quite large rump.
I’ve been having lessons on him for about 6 years now
When I think I’ve over mastered him, or think ‘I’m too good’
AJ likes to show me wrong, and shows me he’s too good!
He tests me, but only as much as I’m ready for.
‘Cause he’s a gentleman like that
He waits for me when I fall off, and nickers for me to get up
I’ve been trod on, smashed in the face, bitten, received multiple concussions, bruises, stiff legs, blisters, rope burn, squashed toes, kicked knees and ripped out nails. Presents…gifts from this horse ;)
But with all his faults, the pain both him and I have received.
He never, ever fails to please.
When I canter him around the jumping course
Or let him gallop through water
When he takes me on trails
Or spooks at a garbage bin, or a swaying tree
AJ always gives it his ‘all’ and tries his best.
He’s built up my legs muscles and soft kind hands.
He’s taught me patience, love and what it means to ride a horse
He’s a pig too, I know, the description above makes you think of a quite nice horse
AJ is that, I must say, but also a pig, and idiot of course!
He rubs me against trees in an attempt to get me off
He stops cantering at the slightest change in leg pressure
He avoids the bit, my leg aids, and spoken commands.
He won’t back up unless the pressure is evenly distributed
He runs off at the last minute, bolts, gets distracted
He refuses jumps if I’m the slightest bit un-balanced
But with of that, AJ truly is the best
He has made me the rider I am, the rider I will be, he has made me my best
I can saddle up in about 6 seconds flat
And untack in about 2
I can rug up, feed and groom in a few seconds too while talking on the phone
He’s been there for my worst moments, and I’ve been there for his
He’s happy to stand still while I make a fuss, while I take photos, stretch his legs, clean his face
We conquer the world together, celebrate and love
So when I watch his muscle, his grace as he moves
His spirit so truly free
I am amazed, I’m in awe
I feel proud that I can ride him that together we move in time.
That I can dance with him, can conquer jumps, tests, courses, that I can barrel race, and pole bend, trot, canter, walk.
That I can explore with him, gallop on him, cross rivers, creeks, roads, hills, trails, fallen trees.
That he has taught me to deal with problems, to live, to love, to run
It has made me realize,
AJ isn't the prettiest horse, the fastest, the fittest.
He hasn't been to the Olympics, won any national championships.
AJ has the most heart. 395474_104816483030640_1392663913_n.jpg
