    Gypsygirl,

The Horse Forum is for mature people to discuss their love of horses. As many members have shown, a person can act maturely at any age.

That said, as you've read in this thread and the thread where teens have voted on whether this rule should apply in the Teen Talk forum as well, http://www.horseforum.com/teen-talk/...-should-42336/, the majority of mature people, here and elsewhere, find net speak to be annoying.

Since net speak adds nothing but only serves to detract from the majority of users' experience here, and those who use it can just as easily type properly, it has been prohibited.

I agree that it should not be over used, as in your whole post, but how can you regulate it ?

Are you going to delete a post if I use please in it ?

Ideally you would respect this simple request which is for everyone's benefit so that it would not come down to a decision about whether to delete your post.

Most members would receive a pm if we came across them using net speak simply asking them not to use it going forward. In your case, though, your use of net speak after having this conversation would be a clear disregard of the rules and a lack of respect for what we are trying to accomplish. So yes, your post would likely be deleted.

Wow. Really cracking down, eh? I thought this would just be another forgotten rule.

    Well done!

Not sure I completely agree with that, but I understand its not up to me. Just make sure to be very clear in the PMs because im sure there is going to be a lot of confusion about what is ok & what isnt.

Hey, at least they're not making you use proper capitalization and punctuation too!

And if they ever start cracking down on spelling, I'll probably get booted off. :P

    Good job, Mods! *Throws cookies*

    Mmm, cookies!

To be sure, this rule is for the community and we're not out to give anyone a hard time. The fact is that there are places people want to participate at and places that turn people off and cause them to leave. We want to ensure the Horse Forum stays the former so that members of all ages and experience levels enjoy participating and helping one another here for a long time to come.

    Thanks!

They actually asked her to use proper capitalization. She is just choosing to ignore it.

gypsy, I have a question for you. Why do you choose to not capitalize anything? It would be much easier for people to read your posts if you did.

i do capitalize, just not EVERYTHING. I have never had anyone tell me it makes it hard to read a post. Also, I don't care whether or not other people capitalize.

I completely understand not wanting people to use chat speak all the time in their posts, I agree with that, but I really don't think there is a good way to regulate it. That is all im trying to say.

You've been told it's unacceptable, and the Mods and Admin. Are asking everyone to self police. If you don't, you run the risk of having your posts deleted just because you don't like the new rule.

If you continue to thumb your nose at authority, you also run the risk of being banned. Do you really want to chance that, just because you think something's 'not fair'?

This was voted on, and the majority of the membership find text speak annoying. If you don't like the new rule, you're free to find another BB where they accept it.

I happen to be a Grammar and Spelling Nazi, but I'm willing to put up with random capitalization and the occasional misspelled words. Text speak and using no punctuation or paragraphs however, I find intolerable.
