I'm going to look for the yellow salt blocks. We have these large purple black buzzing beasts here. I'm going to catch one of the darn things and find out what it is. Spirit had one chase him! He was bucking and trying to out maneuver the thing, he dropped to the ground and did a thorough dust bath before it gave up. All I could do was stand there and watch him try to outrun this thing.

I hate horse flies do not know a positive purpose for them on earth..lol
One good thing about the drought ..those buggers don't have alot of muddy places to lay their eggs!
Neem oil in our fly spray def helps better than anything else I have ever tried

I would actually bring HIGH caution to those thinking about getting a salt/mineral block that says they help with fly repeling. First off, they often don't work. But that's not even the worst. I trained with a woman that had one of those, and it literally made her horses high. The calmest saint was taking off to the other end of the ring bucking. She yanked that mineral tub out, and everything went back to normal after about a week. So please, be warned ;)
