braids and braiding

So my questions:
1.) how long do you recommended leaving mane and tail braids in for?

I rebraid once a week and alternate weeks of braiding and leaving loose. Summer I avoid braids so they can fight off flies and mosquitos.

2.) Pros and Cons of braiding?

3.) Different types of braids? Please post pictures :)

Just curious what other people do and their opinions and expeirences :)

Subbing cause I would love see what other ppl have to say about braiding! When I braid I had usually leave in for the week and then take them down brush out and rebraid but with the burrs being so bad this year I have to rebraid everyday. I do have a few pics of braids i've done on my horses

Running Braid

Normal braids

And this is what I go back out to the next day!

Wow! Those are a lot of burrs! I'm glad we don't have burrs out here. :)
I like to do running braids and the normal braids but they only stay in for like five minutes because they shake them out.

But I don't have any pictures. :(

lol that's only a day after those braids! Its ten times worse when I let it go for a week. I'd be so screwed if he was a show horse!

Wow that is a lot of burs. No burs here but only cause of the snow. Come summer they will be back :(

I use a running braid or regular braids too. I'll get pics today :)

I laughed at the picture of the burrs only because I know how much of a pain they are to deal with. I had a feathered draft and that was super fun to deal with when he walked through the burrs.

I do individual braids in my horse's mane and leave them in until I feel like taking them out but only in the summer. I don't mane braid in the winter so he can keep some extra warmth in on his neck in the snow and cold. When I braid my horse's tail I only go half way down and take it out when the bottom dreads up so about a week and then rebraid. Sometimes I'll do a few braids in his tail and braid all the way down so he has some fly deterrent, although it isn't fun getting his by 5 or 6 tail braids when he's swatting flies. I like the fishtail braids and french braiding but I don't have any pictures. I think braiding keeps him cooler in the summer and makes his tail easier to work with while getting them used to all parts of their body being touched. I braid tails as early as I can because nothing is cuter than a baby prancing around with its tail all done up.

Do you put rubber bands on them? Or just braid and leave them?

Yeah, I put rubber bands on them. They just shake so much they come out. And also when they put their head down to eat the running braids come out. :)
