How Can I promote the mane and tail to be as black as possible? I don't stall horses and keep them on 20 acres of pasture. I do ride in playdays and trail rides, but would like my mare's black mane and tail to be black, not a dingy bleach sun burned black / red.
I did use a Quick color shampoo for black horses on the mane and tail. All I got was blue hands!
I have the same problem with my buckskin! And I used Quik Black as well and only got blue stained hands and she got a blue stained bum!! LOL
I've heard some people actually just buy black hair dye at the store and dye the tail/mane! I've never tried it, but I may before show season starts this year ;-)
There are spray on conditioners on the market that have sun block in them. They work well. I keep tails up all year so that is not a problem. I only have one mare whos mane gets a bit red on the ends but I tend to keep manes braided as well so that helps.
