I plan on clipping my weanling filly in April or so as well so I don't have to deal with the rediculous shedding and so that I can do some light classes with her at the local rodeo (in hand of course). In Texas the horses don't shed out fast enough to keep up with our weather so its something we do often. We clip almost all of our miniature horse foals at 6-7 months old and clip them from the neck up during the winter because we do show them and it is the customary thing to do.It also helps you see how 'refined' they might turn out, since all minis honestly look like hobo horses with their fuzzies. Real buyers are less willing to take you seriously if you hand over a wooly mammoth for their inspection, as opposed to a sleek, well turned out yearling. We've never had their hair grow back funny or anything. I would go ahead and do it and just blanket them lightly as needed if you think it will help.
