    Cracked Hooves--Oiling

My horse has got some cracks in his hooves from all the mood we have up here, and I'm wondering, should I oil them? They look like they're dry, so I thought it would be a good idea, but I've never had a horse that hooves crack so much. If I oil, how often should it be done?
    Thanks so much!

Horses hooves are porous so they need to absorb water to stay healthy - too much and too little is bad for them so its a balancing act
In really dry weather I use a water based hoof conditioner to help with the problem
Don't forget that hoof health is also steered by what you feed them - so there might be something lacking in the diet - or even something like too much iron in it
