Dakota's mane regrowth

I hogged my Dakotaís mane back on May 12th... was looking at the regrowth the other day and decided to snap some pictures in order to show you guys, lol.

So, May 12th, right after being shaved.

And now, August 8th, the regrowth... (Yeah, I took the pictures the other day... and yeah, he was pulling Ďstupid facesí while trying to eat some corn-stalks...).

The regrowth is all natural... Iím not putting anything at all on his mane and havenít ran a comb or brush through it at all.

Wow! It looks really good. I am quite a fan of hogged manes...

I'm just curious...was there a specific reason you shaved his mane or did you just do it for interests sake? I have to say it looked pretty cool shaved like that.

Lol, no specific reason...

I hogged my Walker mare's mane about two years ago, and loved it, so I really wanted to see how it looked on Dakota, so did his this year, and love it!

I used to be a fan of long manes and would almost never do anything to shorten a mane... but they were a hassle to keep tangle-free and good looking, so I've begun to lean towards the preference to short manes... right now, all three of my horses have short manes (one hogged, the other two pulled... though I let them grow out during winter).

Yeah, I started prefering hogged manes when I tried it on Stoeka. Her mane just never grew long, it always stayed short, thin and weird. So one day I just cut it off, and it looked great.

I will add a photo later on today when I get home.

First three are of Stoeka with her mane at different lengths.

The next two are of Night Heat with her different lengths. In that last one of her, her mane needs a bit of a touch up.

The last one is of Damper with her mane looking like a Fjords...LOL.

Dakota looks good! Are you going to shave it off again, or let it grow out?

If you aren't going to shave it all off again, I would suggest going over it with clippers to make it look neater. Keep the back by the withers shorter, and the top by his bridle path shorter, so it doesn't leap up into big ol' mohawk. Like FAM's picture of that last horse, it starts short, gets long, then short again. Of course, that's just personal preference. =P
