Hey, I hear you, RoughRider--you dig a long thick mane, so just want this phase to be over! I hope it happens speedily!

It actually looks reasonably thick to me (obviously not pony thick haha) just very short. My mare had her mane shaved off when I got her but now 10 months later she has a nice mane that finishes halfway down her neck and I actually had to trim it for the first time before our last competition. Her mane stuck up weirdly for ages and swapped sides all the time. It also had a kink in the middle of it. The kink has gotten better as the mane got longer and lays almost flat now. As I wanted it on the right side I just always brushed it to that side and banded it on that side sometimes to encourage it. Good luck with it and just give it time, I never used any products to make it grow faster because I wasn't in a hurry, I just used detangler when brushing it so I didn't pull any hair out.

Thank you all! His mane is actually growing on me so I'm not in any rush for it to grow out gives him character. I guess I was so used to seeing those "perfect" manes that his took me by surprise. =)

To see the wind's power, the rain's cleansing, and the sun's radiant life, one need only to look at the horse.

^ That is perfectly understandable... my eyes would pop out of my head if Bali's mane looked like that... but I'd adjust and tell myself "It'll grow back, it'll grow back..." My old pleasure horse used to rub her mane out if we put her in this certain round pen... it was dreadful to deal with... would always do it 2 or 3 weeks before a show too, so she'd look like a doofus. And she'd have gray rubbed all down her white neck from the pipe... O.o silly ponies!

Very cute! She looks like a little draft horse with bobs in her mane!
