Ending the running braid

First off: Just curious as to what you do at the end of the running braid?

Second off: Rebel's mane just isn't long enough for a slant because I run out of hair. I don't realy want to braid all the way across the top, but when I slant the braid I run out of hair. Would it look super tacky if the bottom part was not in the braid? Is there something I should do with it?

I don't know what to do with the end, that is a very good question actually.
As far as the 'left over' mane - Have you tried splitting the difference between a braid that runs all the way across the top and where you have it now?? Maybe if it were less of a slant, you could get more of the mane in there??? (I don't know, I've never intentionally tried to do a slant running braid like that.)

I don't intentionally do the slant thing either. I am fairly certain for showing (I don't show, it was just in the video I watched when I learned to do it a few months ago), you keep braiding the remains like a normal braid, then fold it up and band it so it's a little nub that goes unnoticed. Does that make sense?

Maybe just don't slant it down so far? From that picture, it looks like you're braiding so far down that the only purpose for braiding is to make it look pretty, but not very practical.

Yeah, that IS pretty much what I'm doing.....The slant braid really accents his neck netter when he's in the dressage headset and all. When his mane is left alone/plaited/braided other ways it looks really skinny.

I got this suggestion on my other thread for him because I refuse to pull his mane.

And thanks for the suggestions guys. I can't, for th elife of me, get a FLAT running braid on the top of the neck to look good. Lol

I'm western and don't even show, so I just do the running braid to keep my mare's neck from getting all sweaty and her mane from knotting while lungeing. Haha. I just pull it up as tight as I can. It's still slanted because I don't use any detangler or anything, just brush it out a bit, but it's only a couple inches down.

I dunno. I would just try pulling it up a couple of inches and that should still give you the slant, but include all of his mane. I will say that it looks much better than my attempts at braiding. You're lucky he has gray hair so you can see it. Mine has a black mane so if it's not super bright, it's like ughhh.

You could still do the slant braid but try andstY up a bit higher longer so you can make it farther maybe? I only do the running braid for fun and to keep my mares mane from getting in the way when riding cause it's super thick hah

I struggle with making it lay against the neck, too. If you can possibly sit on the horse while you braid, it makes it a lot easier IMO.

Huzzah! I braided Abby's mane today because I was going to be lungeing and riding. I got it up the highest I've ever gotten it. Some kind of sleeking spray would have helped if I wanted it to be fancy because she's got frosting growing into her mane..so she had a slight mohawk on top of the braid. You can also see how I end it. I don't show, I just do it to help with sweat and witch's knots.

I've never seen anyone slant a running braid like that. It's different. I like it, but I don't think it would hold very well. If you are wanting to show off his long mane, have you considered a lattice plait? (Of course, they take a bit longer to put in)
