Red face FIRST time braiding ever...

Sat. my horse and i are going to be in our first show. Its low key, and not very professional. More so just for fun.
So today when i was at the barn, i was just messing around with Candys mane and tail.

Here is what i did...

NOTE: this was my first time EVER french braiding ANYTHING! let alone a horse, and i really had no idea what i was doing. I know the tail could def. be wayyyy tighter, and i could have started higher on the tail. But the small hairs are just so tedious. haha.. but def. tell me what i could improve on if you would like!

Here is her mane before..

Sorry for it being so blurry...

Here is after. And yes, i did take care of the bridle path. just forgot to take another picture of her ALL done.

And here is her tail...

Aw, looks great for a first time. The tail looks like an inside-out French braid.

You can get the top hairs in by getting them wet first, and I would recommend not putting anything like ShowSheen or conditioner in the hair because it makes it slippery.

The mane looks good too. I would suggest washing it thoroughly and conditioning before banding. :]

Great job!

ETA: LOVE that hot pink halter! Pink is my girl's color too. ;]

I didnt wash the mane or tail yet, planning on doing that the day before the show.

And yeah, when i showed everyone at my barn, her mane, most of them said it would have probably worked better and last longer if i got it wet, and washed it first. I'll def. do that next time.!!

I just wanted to do this all before the show. because when i go out to the barn tomorrow, who knows how many of the rubber bands are actually still going to be in. =P

Beautiful!!! When I was young I used to band my hair like that too..lol..your girl can pull it off, I looked like a big dork. lol

In riding, a horse's energy is like a river- guided by the banks but not stopped by them.

That is so GOOD! Come over and do Dakota's for me, cause I sure can't!

You can tell a gelding. You can ask a stallion. But you must discuss it with a mare. -Unknown

Ya if you use conditioner and stuff in the tail and maybe braid it while its wet it would probably help it hold together. You do braid backwards haha that could be part of the problem its not very tight. Remember to put each strand over the other. Looking pretty good though.

I would actually advise against conditioner in the tail before braiding - makes the hair slippery. ;]

Her tail and mane are EXTREMELY thick and coarse. Do you think it would still make it pretty slippery?
