Flaxseed?

Anyone ever use flaxseed in a horse's feed to make them shiny? Does it work?

It sure does! I feed 3/4 cup every day or so......and I buy it whole and feed it whole. There was a myth that it had to be ground up so the horse could digest it rather than just poop it out.....not true. Plus buying it ground is a PITA....it goes off fast and grinding it exposes the oils in it to oxygen which degrades the oils, ie. Rancid.

Cool! Probably will try it. But do you have to mix it with feed or can you just give it to them plain?

Well I just mix it with his ration and damp it down a little with some water so the tiny flax seeds will stick to the larger pellets of his ration

Do they eat it ok?
