I don't know what to do about my horse for flys. Do I need to get a fly mask? The problem with fly masks is he would have if on all the time and I don't want it to rub and hurt him. I can get fly spray and put it on him as much as possible but would that do enough? Posted via Mobile Device
I use fly masks on my boys, but only during the day. Once it starts to get dark, I take them off. That way, they don't have them on 24/7 and they don't rub/cause sores.
If you leave them on all the time, it could cause the horse to get itchy and rub. Possibly causing it to come off anyway.
Are you boarding or keeping yours at a place of your own? We had a barn that got mad at us for setting up fly traps. They said it was causing more flies to be attracted. Now that we have them it home, we can do what we want.
You can use fly spray but even the ones that claim to last for several days don't. What we've found that works best is to string the sticky fly tape that is normally used in barns, on the outside of the fence for the pasture. Fly spray only repels flies. The tape catches them and then they die. Posted via Mobile Device
You can take the poop out of the pasture to cut back on flies- a fan works good in the barn but you aint gonna be able to have horses with out flies- just less flies, lol.
