French Braiding mane and forelock- First try

I was bored yesterday and tried to do a french braid on my pony's forelock and mane(running braid)

For my first try, on my pony's mane that really needs washed and needed brushed(and I didn't have a comb or brush with me) I think I did pretty good.

Good job at keeping it close to the neck on your fist try!

Yes, looks good! Especially for not having been able to comb it out first.
I find the running braid not only looks nice, but it is a great way to keep manes from developing awful witch knots....

Good job! I can never get it to stay tight.. lol. I think it's because my horse is so tall.

I know right? I learned how to french braid my own hair and finally understood how to do it. I have yet to talk anybody into letting me braid their hair.

Neat! I have been french braiding and every other kind of braiding her hair for years, can't wait to try it on our new horses!

Apparently everyone is choosing now to try their hand at the running braid! I tried it out yesterday for the first time on Gulliver, and I think I did pretty well :) (Ignore the crooked halter)

That looks awesome! (both of you) I have never braided or done anything with horse's hair! Can't wait til my little baby has enough of a mane to try it! Do you do it just like a human French braid?

I've actually never done a French braid, so I would have no idea lol. It starts out as a regular braid, and you pull a chunk of hair into the middle part.

I learned how to do the braid out of a the book. "Braiding mane's and tails" By Charni Lewis. Good book with illustrations and easy to follow directions.
