Getting My Horses Mane To Grow?

My horse has a very short, spiky mane. He seems to keep rubbing it on the fence and pulling it out. What can I do to stop him from doing that, and also what can I do to help his mane grow out?

Don't know what to tell you about his rubbing it off on the fence, but my mare has a thin-ish mane that I'm trying to grow out. I'm braiding it once a week either in a series of french braids or a running braid. I can't give any specific advice about the product firsthand yet, but I'm also doing an M-T-G treatment to her mane and tail once a week. Here is a link to my thread about it and some pictures...

Electrify the fence is one thing you can do and to make manes/tails grow is sulphur. Go to the pharmist and ask him to mix 10% sulphur (powder) and the rest vasaline or something similar. The secret is sulphur. Check out fairy tale horses. Super long manes. That's the secret (sulphur). Its in MTG, but alot less.

That actually sounds great, either options. My horse tends to have dandruff, and I've read that it helps dissolve that and moisturize the skin as well!
