    I use MTG on bare spots like you said (from being bit, scratched, etc.) but I only use it on their bodies, I never use it on their mane and tail because it's caused them to rub them out before. And yea, wear gloves when using MTG. I reapply it to bare spots every couple days just because it does collect a lot of dust, so I spray is off and reapply it, no big deal. For mane and tail growth I feed a new product called BioMane. It's incredible how well it works. My horses are putting on almost 2 inches of new growth every month, and their mane/tails have thickened up while on it also. Try it, it's great. I order it online from biomane.com
