heavyweight mane

My horse riley, has a very heavy mane and tail but in the heat we're getting here in scotland he's tending to sweat under it badly. I tend to bunch it so as much skin as possible is exposed. Its gorgeous and I'd hate to have to lose it. He's tails weights a ton and I keep it as clean as possible and to be honest he doesn't seem to have any problems with it.
I'm wandering how I can help riley with his mane to stay cooler. He shows so I can't do anything to extreme.

You could braid his mane, that will allow air to get under it. That's what I do in the summer here (it's dry in AZ, but it gets up to 120).

Good plan. I'll need a volunteer as its a thick double mane.

Yeah, as suggested.. braiding it is a easy way.
Here in tx its extremely hot in humid, so I spray my guys down a few times a day on the hottest days to help them some

Would a hose pipe do the job?

The mane helps protect the neck. Sweating is a cooling mechanism so he's fine with his thick mane. You could thin his mane by plucking hairs from the underside. This also makes combing easier.
