Help! Nightmare horse!!

I have a 7 year old and he is getting very aggressive when i groom, him. When i turn him out, he rolls, which means he gets muddy, especially under his stomach. He will not for the life of him let me get it off. Ive tryed baby oil and every thing, he just wont let me touch it. So it wont shift. Please help people! Also, does anyone else have/had horses like this. Please help! and soon! Ty x

Yes I do, my 15.2 shire x was a nightmare to groom, he was not too bad with it when he first arrived but then, started trying to nip and would kick out. After a couple of months he now seems cured with the help of clicker training, plus it has helped us build a better bond.

is he rugged at night or when he's turned out? is the stall warm enough?, it is know that horses will roll in mud to keep them self's warm if there not rugged. i have a big gray mare that is pretty touchy about being groomed....if i take her for a ride i only groom where the saddle and girth goes......i've dubbed her my mud monster.

he could have very thin skin, so when you brush him it hurts. try to see if you use a very light brush or cloth and see if he is as annoyed

hmm I'd try something called approach and retreat. My horse used to not let me get anywhere near her stomach to groom.

What you do is let's say he's sensitive on his back. Start at his neck and stroke and scratch him all the way down his neck to his shoulder and on. The second he pins his ears or gets defensive back off and start from the beginning again. Slowly make your way there again and just slowly get closer. if he gets angry back off a little then make your way back. get closer each time until you can touch wherever it is sensitive. Also I suggest doing groundwork with him. This aggressiveness is obviously a lack of respect. Or make sure you aren't brushing to the point your hurting him or if he's sore where your brushing. If pain is ruled out than you can try some of these suggestions.

Well try getting it off with the water from the hose, just water it down and you said he wont let you touch it? Does he kick or snap, bite, etc when you touch it?

he just gets grumpy and rams himself into the posts near his spot on the yard. he raises his leg, but dosnt kick (hes never kicked out really) and he has his ears flat back and flares his nostrels.

any other thoughts?

hmmmm if he rolls and you cant get it of, the mud like drys on his fur and maybe its sensitive to him when you try to curry it and it pulls and it hurts him.
