Blackflies, greenheads, deer flies and there is some big one the size of a bumble bee that leaves bleeding welts. Hurts like heck!

I mix my own with permethrin, skin so soft and a little apple cider vinegar. Seems to go most of the day unless the horse gets real sweaty. I brush it into the coat and spritz a second time when the flies are real bad.
Celeste and jaydee like this.

I would use a fly sheet, fly mask, and fly boots. Then try using branco, or maybe wipe n' spray, they seem to work pretty well. One thing, if your horse has sensitive skin wipe n' spray may not be the best thing to use. Also try riding him during the cooler parts of the day, and keep him in the barn when your not riding him, only turning him out at night. Hope this helps

Stabling during the day does seem to be the best way to go, ours actually 'ask' to come in as soon as the biting gets bad now and if that's what they want that's what they get. Leaving them out to suffer would be like punishing them, they don't want to get used to it so don't see why they should have too.
